Over the past two weeks following my last client meeting, I find myself reflecting on the culmination of my first-ever contract work for an actual client. Stepping into this class, the idea of collaborating with a real-world client and addressing real-world scenarios seemed like a distant aspiration. However, the journey has been nothing short of amazing and eye-opening.
One of the most surprising aspects of this experience was the seamless alignment of my project with the Digital Content Strategy Landscape. In the early weeks, as we delved into the theoretical aspects of this topic, I comprehended the underlying principles but struggled to connect it to the practical application in my client project. Submitting my content audit and report marked a turning point – revisiting the Digital Content Strategy Landscape not only clarified its relevance but also provided a lens to assess my performance. This retrospective view allowed me to identify my strengths and areas for improvement.
As a novice in client projects, I successfully incorporated most elements of the Digital Content Strategy roadmap into my work. However, a notable gap emerged in the realm of project management. Early in the project, we encountered the unfortunate departure of a team member due to conflicts, disrupting our group dynamics and designated roles. In response, I assumed the unofficial role of team leader, though my execution in this capacity was far from effective. Despite having access to a Kanban board through Trello, a valuable tool for visualizing project progress and managing tasks, I failed to maximize its potential for communicating project phases within our team.
Reflecting on the overall project, I acknowledge a deficiency in my project management skills, particularly in utilizing the Kanban board to its fullest extent. While I made some progress in integrating Trello into our workflow towards the project’s conclusion, I am cognizant of the fact that there is room for improvement in this aspect of team management. This realization serves as a valuable takeaway from this project, reinforcing the significance of effective project management tools, such as the Kanban board, in ensuring smooth collaboration and task coordination.
Despite the challenges faced, I carry this project experience with a newfound appreciation for the comprehensive utility of the Kanban board and a heightened confidence in my capabilities as a team leader. This endeavor has not only enhanced my understanding of digital content strategy but has also equipped me with practical insights into the intricate balance of theory and application in the realm of client projects. As I move forward, I am committed to leveraging these lessons to continually refine my skills and contribute meaningfully to future endeavors in the dynamic field of digital content strategy.
